A 17-YEAR-OLD boy has been arrested in connection with the assault of a jogger in Ramsbottom.

A teenager was arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in custody for questioning.

The arrest is in connection with an assault that took place sometime between 5:45am and 6:15am in Nuttall Park on Friday, June 1.

Police said a 49-year-old woman had been running down Lower Nuttall Road on a track when the offender forced her to the floor and struck her in the head a number of times before fleeing the scene.

Detective Sergeant Lawrence Dixon, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "I know there has been a lot of concern in the community since this incident happened but I want to reassure the public that we are continuing to investigate and have been following numerous lines of enquiry over the last 24 hours.

“We arrested a 17-year-old boy on suspicion of section 18 assault and he remains in custody to be questioned by detectives later today.

“We will continue to have an increased visible police presence in the area today and I ask that anybody with concerns please approach one of our officers on patrol to report them. "
