THOUSANDS of music fans made the most of the bank holiday sunshine at Darwen's free-to-attend festival.

Organisers of Darwen Live, which kicked off on Sunday, said it has been the 'biggest one yet.'

One of the star attractions was Langho lass Grace Davies, the runner-up in last year's ITV X Factor contest, who thrilled her home crowd on Monday evening.

She performed a 45-minute set including songs from her upcoming album.

Highlights from Sunday included performances by comedy folk band the Lancashire Hotpots and 80s teen idol Paul Young on the main stage, while venues across the town hosted live bands.

Festival organiser Darren James said: "It's been the busiest one yet and town was heaving with people all day.

"The crowd loved it and were singing along all day.

"There has been no trouble and everyone has been very good natured, we are looking forward to day two."
