POLICE are appealing for anyone who knew a couple who vanished without a trace to come forward.

The fate of Burnley Couple Andrew Keeble and Hannah Tye, who went missing on Friday while kayaking off the Jersey coast, remains unknown.

Jersey police said they are 'struggling' to establish what happened after the couple, who gave their address as Healey Wood Road, Burnley, were given a lift to Rozel Harbour from Rozel Campsite, where they had been staying for a couple of weeks.

The couple were spotted buying a kayak and life jackets and may have put out to sea, police said.

Jersey detectives are still working with their French counterparts to establish whether two people spotted on a French beach 12 miles away are the missing couple.

Police have not been able to positively identify the pair, who fitted the description of the couple and were seen hauling a dark coloured kayak in orange and red life jacket up the beach at Hatainville, north of Carteret, Normandy, between 7.30am and 8.15am on Saturday.

Inspector Dave Burmingham said: "Anyone who knows the couple are urged to contact the police or coastguard so their welfare can be confirmed.

"Whether they have given accurate details or not is unclear. We simply do not know where they are."

"Checks in the UK have failed to establish further information. It would not have been dangerous to put out to sea that day but the coastguard would not reccom-mend going such a long distance."

It is possible the pair intended to row to the Ecréhous, a group of islands six miles north east of Jersey.

The French coast is 12 miles from Jersey. Detailed air and sea searches on Monday, and did not reveal anything.

No-one has reported them missing and the Burnley address they gave appears to have been empty.
