THE mother of the youngest boy to die in custody has shown her support for the family of a father-of-two who died shortly after being arrested.

Carol Pounder, whose son Adam Rickwood committed suicide at a detention centre aged 14, was asked by Nadeem Khan's family to take part in a public meeting at the Jinnah Community centre, in Brougham Street, Burnley.

The meeting was held to allow the family and friends of Mr Khan, of St Aidans Avenue, Blackburn, to put concerns forward about this death after he was taken into police custody on June 30.

Mr Khan was arrested at 8.50am in Halifax Road, Brierfield, following what officers described as a violent struggle'.

The post-mortem examination on Mr Khan, who moved to Blackburn after growing up in Burnley and attending Towneley High School, proved inconclusive.

Ms Pounder, of Greenoch Close, Burnley, said: "My son died in custody and I want to make sure this never happens again.

"I do not want any other mother to go through the pain that I went through."

"One of Nadeem's relatives contacted me and told me they were having this meeting and the main reason I am supporting this is to ensure the family get the truth - this is very important."

The circumstances of Mr Khan's death are being investigated by the Independent Police Complaints Commission who this week appealed for more information.

Mr Khan's family also made a plea for witnesses and information through their solicitor, Joanne Kearsley, of Farleys Solicitors, Burnley.
