A 'SHOCKED' man returned home to find the back of his house on fire.
Fire crews were called to Bamford Street, Nelson, shortly after 5.30pm.
Firefighters discovered the fire had broken out at the back of the house.
After making their way through the rear of the home they found a faulty extension lead to the oven, which was fire crews deemed to be the cause of the fire.
The homeowner, who is believed to be in his late 60s, returned to the house shortly after fire crews arrived was said to be visibly 'shocked'.
A fire spokesman said: "The fire did not spread into the house.
"It burnt a few holes in the back door and caused some water damage to the kitchen.
"There was some smoke damage to the house too."
