A FREE film about the novelist Iris Murdoch and her relationship with her husband during her time with dementia is taking place next week.

Pendle's Dementia Action Alliance has arranged the viewing of the film 'Iris', which stars Judi Dench, Kate Winslet and Jim Broadbent.

There will also be a range of information stalls, a Q and A panel and activities for people with dementia to keep them occupied while their carers watch the film.

Gill Dickson who helps to co-ordinate Pendle Council’s support on health issues including dementia said: "We arranged for showing during national Dementia Awareness Week as the film is a touching portrayal of a close relationship affected by Alzheimers disease.

"Around 4,000 people in Pendle are affected by dementia and that figure is growing."

Paul Gauntlett, Pendle’s Dementia Action Alliance chairman, said: "Like so many people, I have family members who live with dementia so I understand some of the issues and difficulties that people with dementia face, and their families and carers."

The film will be shown at the ACE Centre, Nelson on Wednesday, May 23, at 2pm.
