AN UPSET father-of-two trashed his girlfriend's home after being offered crack cocaine at his young daughter's birthday party, a court was told.

Burnley Magistrates heard how Ben Almond, who had been offered the deal by his ex-partner's new boyfriend, went through every room in Janet Alder's home, causing damage to the tune of more than £2,300.

The victim, who had then been with the defendant for six years, was not insured.

Almond, said to have mental health issues and to have been sectioned in the past, had trouble channeling his anger, the court was told.

The defendant's behaviour was slammed as "absolutely disgusting," by the bench who said the victim must have been very distressed by the sight that awaited her on returning to her home.

Almond, of Sefton Terrace, Burnley, admitted damage on July 3. He was given an 18 month community order with supervision to address his cannabis misuse and conflict resolution and temper management.

Nick Cassidy, defending, said Almond had had disadvantages in life he had had trouble overcoming.

Before the offence he had been to his ex-partner's house, where she lived with their two children and her new boyfriend. The new boyfriend offered him crack cocaine when the children were in the house and that upset him.

Mr Cassidy said the defendant had not wanted to make a scene in front of his children and had gone home and thought things over. He discussed what had happened with Miss Alder and could feel he was losing his temper. The defendant was now ashamed of his actions and felt remorse.

Charlotte Crane, prosecuting, the couple had been talking about what she perceived as his family's dislike of her. He wouldn't listen and she left her house. She immediately rang the police as she could hear smashing and banging.

Almond had wrecked property including televisions, computer equipment and wardrobes and had been in every room of the house. He had 29 previous convictions.
