A 35-year-old man was shot in the leg with an air rifle in an unprovoked attack.
Police said Lee Snape, 35, was getting out of his car near his home in Lindisfarne Avenue, Blackburn, when he suffered a shot wound to the lower part of his leg.
The victim drove himself to Royal Blackburn Hospital where he received treatment on Monday night.
The incident was reported to police the next day and door to door inquiries have been carried out by officers.
A weapon has not been recovered. Anyone with information should ring police on 01254 51212.
