METAL wire was found stretched across a road in Barrowford by police officers.

A police spokesman said they are looking for two men who placed the fence wire across Lee Street, near Nora Street, in Barrowford, on Tuesday, May 8.

PC Mark Dibb said anyone with information is asked to come forward.

He said: "This was an extremely dangerous act, which could easily have resulted in a very serious if not fatal consequence.

"Fortunately neighbours have discovered this wire and cut it down before anyone was hurt, however not before a motorist had already run into it.

"If you are aware of anyone who may be responsible, or if you come across other such incidents then please contact your local community beat manager which is myself or PSCO Trish Ashworth."

People took to social media to express their displeasure regarding the incident.

One Facebook user said: "It was done with a hosepipe other week , they must have nothing better to do with their lives."

Tahir Zaman said: "It’s kids I’ve seen them trying a rope as well side of shop.

"Would be a different headline say a motorcyclist had gone past washing lines are dangerous never mind copper wire."

Dianne Clarke said: "Why would anyone do this beggars belief."

Danielle Stobbs said: "(People) round here are always causing mischief don’t think they live too far

"The other month they were pulling bins into road in the dark so cars would either crash or have to get out."
