Rovers have released a statement clarifying the decision to close the Darwen End to home supporters from next season.

Chief Executive Steve Waggott has apologised for the disruption to supporters who have previously chosen to sit in the Darwen End but admits the expected increase in away followings from Championship teams will avoid 'constant disruption.

The club statement in full:

Following recent correspondence from supporters, the club wishes to clarify its stance regarding the closure of the Bryan Douglas Darwen End for home fans for the forthcoming 2018/19 season.

Whilst we understand the frustrations of some supporters, the closure of the Darwen End is essential in order to avoid constant disruption throughout the season, with large away support expected from our Championship opponents next term.

Chief Executive Steve Waggott said: “Whilst we apologise for any inconvenience caused to those affected supporters, we feel that closing the Darwen End is the correct decision so as to avoid having to constantly move our supporters out of their seats in that end of the stadium.

“We will likely have big away followings from sides such as Leeds United, the two Sheffield clubs, the three relegated Premier League clubs and our local rivals, Preston North End, Bolton Wanderers and Wigan Athletic, who are all set to visit Ewood Park next season.

“We felt the constant disruption to our home supporters to accommodate away fans would be a real hindrance to our own support and their overall enjoyment of the Championship campaign. By consolidating our home support, we also believe this should create an improved atmosphere and fan experience.

“We hope supporters can understand the rationale behind this decision and we look forward to seeing you all next term for what will hopefully be an exciting return to the Championship.”

Please note, supporters who held 2017-18 Season Tickets in the Darwen End are welcome to select a new seat in another area of the stadium at any point during the Early Bird window, which closes on Saturday June 16th.
