THE first concert show to be licensed and officially endorsed by the Sun Record Corporation will be coming to Burnley Mechanics in October.

Based in Memphis, Sun Studio run by Sam Philips is regarded by many as the birthplace of rock and roll.

Artists such as Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis all recorded there and had their songs released on the studio’s record label.

John Singleton, president of the Sun Entertainment Corporation said: “From the record label that invented rock ’n’ roll, The Sun Records Concert Show is the only production officially endorsed by Sun Records.

“Sam Philips’ recorded the ‘perfect imperfection’ of music. . . how songs were meant to sound live on stage. The Sun Records Concert Show captures that perfect imperfection perfectly – in a two-hour spectacular that’ll leave you calling out for more!”

The show is the true story of Sun Records, as it happened and features music from many of the label’s iconic figures including Elvis, Cash, Perkins, Ike Turner and Roy Orbison.

“It’s been a long time coming,” said John, “but finally, after more than six decades, never seen before on any stage in the world – it’s the authoritative musical story of Sun Records.”

Show producer Pete Tobit said: “During the Fifties, the trailblazing Sun Studio created the songs that became the template of rock’n’roll,

“Musical visionary Sam Phillips crafted the distinctive sound we know and love today from gospel, blues, hillbilly, country, boogie and western swing.

“The Sun Records Concert Show takes the audience right inside the studio where the magic happened and lets the music do the talking.”
