LANCASHIRE'S libraries will be promoting Mental Health Awareness Week from Monday 14 May to Sunday 20 May.

This year's theme is stress and to cope with it, focussing in the welfare of young people.

The libraries will be highlighting their selection of Reading Well books including collections of self-help volumes chosen by health professionals, covering common mental health conditions such as anxiety, stress, depression, eating disorders and self-harm.

Cllr Peter Buckley, Lancashire County Council's cabinet member for cultural services, said: "This gives us a great opportunity to focus on the range of information, guidance and support to help young people."

He added: "I'm sure that we all know what it’s like to feel stressed. But when you’re overwhelmed by stress it may lead to mental health problems or make existing problems worse, especially for a younger person.
