A BOUNCER was left with a deformed nose after trouble broke out at a Burnley bar.
Phillip Smith was punched and headbutted as he tried to herd a group of people out of Calamity Jane's on March 16.
His attacker, Daniel Carroll, 22, was spared an immediate jail term after a judge said she thought it would be tougher for him.
The defendant, of Glam-organ Avenue, Burnley, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm and had been committed for sentence by the town's magistrates.
Judge Angela Nield said that those who fought in the streets - fuelled by drink - and caused injury to others, must expect severe punishment from the courts.
She said she believed a suspended custodial term might put Carroll in significant difficulties if he did not follow the promises he had made to change his ways and if he carried on going out drinking.
The defendant was given 26 weeks in custody, suspended for two years, with the Controlling Anger and Learning to Manage it prog-ramme.
He must also pay £200 compensation.
