LANDMARKS are set to be seen in a new light when a company takes part in a stunt to show how areas can be transformed.

ACDC Lighting Systems, Barrowford, is to illuminate the new windfarm on Hameldon Hill, Hapton, as well as the railway viaduct in Whalley as part of a 'Guerrilla Lighting' event.

'Guerrilla Lighting' is an impromptu event where buildings and landmarks are lit up at night to change their appearance and people's perceptions of them.

Bosses from ACDC will light up one of the turbines at the new windfarm in LEDs (light emitting diodes) from around 8pm today.

Engineers will then illuminate two of the railway arches in Whalley at around 10.30pm before moving on to Cowling, North Yorkshire.

ACDC last year took part in a similar event in Manchester City Centre when three derelict buildings were lit to show their potential.

Gareth Frankland, sales and marketing director, said the idea to light up one of the windfarm's three turbines came after ACDC was approached by a Scottish firm who wanted to incorporate lights in a windfarm it was building.

He added the event was not open to the public but people would be able to see the landmarks for miles around when they were lit up.

Mr Frankland said "There has also been quite a bit of animosity about windfarms being a blot on areas so we are saying this can also make them a feature."

The turbines on Hameldon Hill were officially switched on in June by energy firm npower (corr).

They will help offset about 9,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year and will be capable of supplying renewable energy to 2,400 homes in the area.

ACDC, employs 50 staff specialised in LED lighting and is set to reach its £4million turnover target for the year.
