DID we just give credibility to a whole day when there was no need too?

Let us put things into perspective. The worry over ‘Punish a Muslim Day’ was genuine in many parts and we could understand people being a little apprehensive.

But let us look at the initial act of producing leaflet in question. The leaflet appeared at locations in some parts of the UK and it only came to the knowledge of the rest of the planet when it was tweeted.

It was not widely distributed and yes, the police did rightly get involved as it was glorifying hate but to suggest that the UK was having a day to punish Muslims was a bit over the top.

I’m sorry to say but we did kind of give credibility to this pointless day with our incessant need to highlight something that was anti-Muslim.

If anything, go back twenty years and no-one would have any the wiser of some idiot printing a stupid list on his computer and shoving it through some homes.

It was wonderful to see Muslim and non-Muslim organisations coming together to show that they won’t stand for this nonsense. I particularly liked how thousands of non-Muslims went on to social media to share their support for their neighbours.

It was not so wonderful though to see a whole load of social media stars trying to take advantage of this issue to get themselves a few more hits. It seems some people couldn’t wait to tell us how horrible life was in Britain.

Rather than share the peace we were helping to spread the fear ourselves.

There was a case of one prominent American Youtuber sharing a story of a man being stabbed and lying in the street. And then posting that and stating this was due to him being a Muslim. It fact there was no evidence to suggest this was the case.

But low and behold a day later he was producing his own ‘Punish a Muslim Day’ video.

I do agree there is a large level animosity towards Islam mostly shared by people who don’t have any contact with Muslims.

People come to their conclusions after reading specific content and are likely to make their minds up despite having never even met a Muslim.

On the whole if we talked a bit more rather than shouted our opinions in the hope it makes it more audible there might not be so much ignorance.

The list was wrong in so many ways. If you really want to punish a Muslim why not just ask us repeatedly about which curries we like.
