A FOUR-generations-old cheese-maker exporting artisanal cheese around the world has been announced as the latest Northern Powerhouse Partner.

Combining traditional techniques with new approaches to flavour, Grandma Singleton’s of Longridge makes a special selection of cheese which is exported to 30 countries across the globe.

Grandma Singleton’s was formally announced as the latest Northern Powerhouse Partner by Northern Powerhouse Minister, Rossendale and Darwen MP Jake Berry, after touring the cheese-making facility which has been twice been awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise and was recently named a Department for International Trade Export Champion.

Mr Berry, said: “I’m delighted to announce Grandma Singleton’s Dairy as the latest Northern Powerhouse partner and I’m looking forward to celebrating their contribution to the region’s economy.

“We are proud to support export champions such as Grandma Singleton’s Dairy, who are exporting their products made right here in Lancashire to export markets across the globe from Singapore to South Africa.

“We’re working hand-in-hand with businesses across the Northern Powerhouse to seize further export opportunities and foster even more trading links with countries around the world.”

Tilly Carefoot, chief executive of Grandma Singleton’s, said: “We’re delighted to become a partner with the Northern Powerhouse.

“The north of England has so very much to offer and it is vital that this is promoted and recognised by a global audience.”

The Government is looking to build a network of partners who all believe strongly in the economic potential of the North, and support the need for a combined effort by government and business to realise that potential.

There are currently over 120 businesses and organisations signed up to the partner programme.
