Three teams from Rishton entered the Lammack football Tournament yesterday. Two Under eight teams entered and had a great time, even though the weather was poor. The U13s had a good competition. See Report Played 4, Won 1 Drew 3 Lost 0 First game v Nelson was a tight affair with both teams closing each other down very quickly with few chances created or conceded. Final score 0-0.

Second up was Lammack. They scored after about 2 minutes which made the match hard work. The lads battled hard and created an excellent chance when Brad Campbell went through one v one with the Lammack keeper but failed to get his shot off. Rishton kept up the pressure and were rewarded when a long ball from Reece Waters was controlled by Dylan Cross and fed into the path of Brad Campbell who scored from close range. Rishton dominated the game but failed to get a winner.

Final score 1-1.

Third match was against a strong Cockermouth team who won the tournament last year and were to go on to the final again this year. Again, Rishton dominated most of the possession but failed to get the breakthrough. A couple of chances were created but not taken, and near the end Cockermouth could have grabbed a winner when their striker failed to connect when faced with an empty net. Final score 0-0 and this meant we couldn't reach the final.

Final match was against Blackburn Town who had to win to reach the final. We had to maintain our unbeaten record!! The match was dominated by Rishton and it was Jamie Taylor who gave the team a deserved lead after a run down the right wing and a dipping shot which gave the keeper no chance. An outstanding individual goal! The second came after a spell of pressure from Rishton, when Mason Ralph grabbed his first competitive goal in Rishton colours. A deserved victory, just too late. Final score 2-0.

On the day Rishton played two U12 players, Kieran Ainscough (Rishton U12's) in goals and Niall Malone (Gt Harwood U12's) in midfield. Both players played very well. Thanks to both of them we were able to field a team which gave all teams a good match. Lewis Wharton had an excellent tournament and was the managements choice of best Rishton player.
