TODAY we launch the 2007 Lancashire Telegraph Business Awards - the biggest event in East Lancashire's industrial and commercial calendar.

The cream of the region's businesses and captains of industry will this year battle it out to be named top in 11 categories - three more than in 2006.

The awards cover every aspect of business achieve-ment and enterprise by companies of all sizes and the individuals who make them what they are.

They will showcase the talent which is the lifeblood of East Lancashire's economy and highlight the massive contribution it makes to the area as a whole.

As well as traditional categories for business of the year, employee of the year and deal of the year, the event will also recognise the contribution of technology, community development and retailers.

Lancashire Telegraph editor Kevin Young said: "The awards are the premier showcase for East Lancashire's many outstanding businesses.

"Every year we are massively impressed by the drive and invention of our companies.

"This is their chance to shine and to get the recognition they deserve in what has become the region's number one business event." The awards are being supported by regeneration body the Northwest Develop-ment Agency (NWDA).

Entrants now have until Friday, September 28 to return their completed entry forms.

The awards will be presented on November 16 at a glittering ceremony at Ewood Park.

Each year the number and the quality of applicants has improved and we urging East Lancashire's companies to make this year's event the biggest and best yet.

Steven Broomhead, chief executive of the NWDA said:"East Lancashire is home to a broad and diverse range of vibrant and dynamic businesses which make an important and valued contribution to the regional economy.

"The Lancashire Telegraph Business Awards importantly recognise this contribution, and promote the work of businesses and individuals that have performed strongly in the last year and demonstrated real enterprising spirit.

"It is vital that we recognise and reward companies and individuals that have demonstrated a strong commitment to excellence, and inspire all our businesses to strive for continuous improvement."
