LANCASHIRE Road Police helped to keep motorists a bit safer on the roads last night.

They tweeted that officers cleared a snow drift at Riley Green last night.

Meanwhile a yellow warning for ice remains in place this morning across East Lancashire.

Met Office chiefs say that after 'a bitterly cold night there will be lying snow and ice at first'

But throughout the day temperatures will get warmer thanks to plenty of sunshine and light winds so it will feel noticeably less cold.

There will be a maximum temperature of 6 °C.

Meanwhile, tonight it will be cloudier with showers over the hills and it means widespread frost is likely overnight as clear spells return. The minimum temperature is -6 °C.

There will be a frosty start to Tuesday but there will be plenty of sunshine and a maximum temperature of 8 °C.

For the rest of the week, Wednesday will bring dry weather at first, but rain will spread from the north later. Thursday and Friday will be milder but more unsettled with spells of wind and rain.
