MOTORISTS have been warned to stay off the roads of East Lancashire after adverse driving conditions have led to a series of incidents.

Police are reporting that a vehicle is stuck on the M65 and snowy conditions have led to issues on both the eastbound and westbound carriageways.

Firefighters from Blackburn have been to a damage only crash on the Grane Road, and there are also reports of a five-vehicle crash close to the Four Halls Inn, Barrowford Road, Higham.

North West Motorway Police Tweeted: "M65 between areas of junction 3 and junction 5, heavy snow has fallen in error, a couple of vehicles have been abandoned due to conditions, gritters and snow ploughs attending area, try and avoid area if possible."

Lancashire Police Tweeted: "We are aware of vehicle stuck on the M65. Highways England have been informed and gritters are en route to the area. We should be able to get people moving as soon as possible.

"Snow update from @NWmwaypolice There are issues on the M65 "Junctions 6-3 east and west bound. Please avoid the area and only travel if you need to."

Gritters are currently out on roads across East Lancashire and morning commuters are being advised to leave extra time for their journey.
