A MAJOR road out of Blackburn has been closed following a crash between two cars.

The incident has happened on the A677 Preston New Road, Mellor, close to Stanley House, at 7.25am this morning and has involved a silver Peugeot coupe and a black Peugeot car.

A police spokesman said there was a side-on impact between the cars and a the coupe came to a stop in a bush.

A partial road closure has been put in place between the junctions of Mire Ash Brow and Branch Road.

A spokesman for the Lancashire Fire Service said: "We were called at around 7.43am to the incident.

"Two fire engines from Blackburn went to the scene of a crash involving two vehicles.

"There was a person trapped in one of the vehicles and we worked with paramedics to cut them out and they were passed to paramedics."

A spokesman for the North West Ambulance Service said: "We were called to a road traffic collision involving two vehicles where we sent a rapid response vehicle and ambulance.

"One person was taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital complaining of pains to their leg and chest."
