WE all have our old class photographs from school days.

As the end of a school year came in sight and long summer holidays beckoned, classes would ritually trudge out to the playground or school field to pose for the photographer.

If parents could afford a print every year, these images would, in effect, be a permanent record of our life through school and our growing up.

Then in later life, they are a record of those days. when the weekday meant learning our times table, Bunsen burners when we went to ‘big’ school and cabbage and tapioca for school lunch.

The weekends and school holidays were often one long round of playing outside with friends and being gone the whole day, fishing, skipping, climbing trees or playing football with jumpers for goalposts.

We made a best friend at school and for many, these friendships have lasted for decades, while those we have lost touch with are welcomed at school reunions.

Today we look at some old school photographs from down the years in East Lancashire - maybe you recognise someone.
