BLACKBURN’S Wayne Hemingway hopes a new housing development will leave a lasting ‘legacy’ for generations to come.

The fashion guru along with his wife Gerardine Hemingway have linked up with Kingswood Homes and architects ID Partnership to deliver the design of the ‘pioneering’ Green Hills development off Livesey Branch Road.

The first phase of the development started early 2017 with 61 properties specifically designed for the site and no less than 41 different bespoke house types with a variety of exterior finishes and internal layouts that sit around rural landscaped courtyards and open green spaces.

The scheme has already received praise after scooping the ‘Best Large Housing Development of the Year’ at the NW Residential Property Awards 2018.

Wayne believes that a lot of care has gone into creating the homes.

He said: “Everything has been thought out including the position where you can look out your windows and at Pleasington and even just beautiful Pennine Lancashire.

“We want to come back in 30 years in a similar way to we go back to our other development in Gateshead and people tell us about the great job it is.

“We want people in a couple of hundred years to talk about this development just like people looking back on the Victorian buildings in the past.”

The 57-year-old insists it has been a long-running project but having the support of Blackburn with Darwen Council and landowners for making it possible.

He said: “We were approached by the Fielden family who own the land who asked if we would help in the design.

“It was like manna to our ears and we wanted to create a legacy in the area.”

“The landowners could have just sold it to largest bidder but did not as they cared about the land.

“The council have been great and supportive and they know the challenges facing the town but they are on the up and that can be seen with the Festival of Making and manufacturing and businesses coming there.”

Paul Jones, development director at Kingswood Homes, said: “This is about creating something that is different to other developments.

“It is great that we have people who care about what they are building and are buying into the philosophy and shows that they don’t have to be expensive that you can buy for the same price as others.”

Callum Boulton and Katie Boulton, have bought one of the houses and they were impressed with the properties.

Mr Boulton said: “It feels very villagey (like you are part of a village) and it is like a little community.

The show home will be open from 10am to 5pm on January 27, 2018 with refreshments also being served.

Opening time following the launch will be Friday to Monday 10am to 5pm.
