RESIDENTS are to be given handy hints on how to beat bogus callers as part of community safety initiative.
About 3,000 cards offering advice on what to do when an unexpected caller will be distributed in Accrington. The cards also provide phone numbers for the police, council and other authorities so that any identification can be verified.
The cards have been provided by the Hyndburn Community Safety Partnership (CSP) through funding from the government's Safer, Stronger Communities Fund.
It is hoped the initiative will raise awareness of bogus callers and distraction burglary' amongst vulnerable members of the community.
The CSP has joined forces with the West Accrington Residents association to deliver Bogus Caller' information cards to residents in their area. Cards can also be collected from Hyndburn Council offices on Cannon Street, Age Concern and Homewise.
Chair of the West Accrington Residents Association, Joe Treacy said: "Anything that can be done to prevent the residents of Accrington from becoming victims of this type of despicable offence will get our support."
