BURNLEY FC hopes to attract top hotel and restaurant chains as part of its £20million redevelopment of Turf Moor and the surrounding area.

The club said it would approach top leisure players to become tenants in the state-of-art development which would be built over the next three years.

The Clarets revealed plans on Monday to redevelop half of the stadium, creating a sports village with business and community facilities.

The project will also create 300 jobs. A 70 to 100-bed hotel is to be built in the new £10million replacement for the David Fishwick (cricket field) stand.

A new supporters' bar and restaurant is to be built as part of the development which will also include a refurbishingof the the Bob Lord stand, which will house a cinema and restaurants.

Several football clubs have hotels built at their ground, including Chelsea, which has two four star hotels, belonging to Millennium and Copthorne, at Stamford Bridge.

Bolton Wanderers' Whites Hotel is owned by luxury chain De Vere and Burnley's Championship rivals Norwich City have a Holiday Inn at their Carrow Road ground.

Darren Bentley, club spokesman, said: "The club aims to approach major national hotel and restaurant chains.

"At this stage the main aim is the planning permission. Until permission is received the club is not in a position to approach these. A planning application is due to be submitted in September and we anticipate a planning decision will be made in the new year. Then we can crystalise the plans, and approach parties."

If approved building work should start on the development next year.

The first of the six phase project will be the £1.25million three-tier players' dressing room and hospitality building, which will also include media facilities.

This would be followed by the 2,500 seater replacement for the David Fishwick stand, which will also incorporate a gymnasium and hospitality boxes.

As part of that phase a new pavilion for Burnley Cricket Club and a multi-story car park is to be built.

The club's Gawthorpe training ground is to be also turned into an academy to bring on young players.

The development is expected to bring in up to £3million a year, most of which will go to the club.
