A TEENAGE songstress proved her talent to land one of the top prizes at a talent show.

On the same day Langho's Grace Davies was competing for the X Factor title, 13-year-old Carla Rutherford, who lives on Buttermere Drive, Oswaldwistle, performed a dazzling rendition of Pulled, from The Addams Family musical in Bolton's Got Talent 2017.

The Accrington Academy student, was one of eight finalists to perform in front of English comedian Peter Kay, who was one of the talent contest's judges.

Despite finishing fourth, the 13-year-old dance student received prize money of £100.

It was another 13-year-old dancer, Jaiden Sayer, who won over the judges to take home first prize, despite a dislocated knee.

Jayne Rutherford, who is Carla's mother and has lived in Oswaldwistle her whole life, said she thought her daughter was 'absolutely fantastic'.

She said: "Carla is actually quite shy and does not like competition but this was just exceptional.

"From the minute we went in everyone was so nice.

"It was fun with Peter Kay who was so nice and he gave Carla a big hug at the end.

"Carla told me he felt squishy, which made me laugh.

"My daughter got a really good reception from the crowd and when she came off there so many people saying 'well done'.

"A member of the crowd came up to my mother who was there and said she was amazing and thought she should have been the winner.

"The security guards at the event also said she was brilliant and would have chosen her for top spot."

Carla's mother said the talented dancer first got into drama because her mother was worried how shy she was primary school.

Jayne said: "I thought she will need to pick up for herself and so I looked at how to improve her confidence and bring her out of her shell.

"Carla is still quite shy, which is bizarre when you consider what she has achieved."

The young dancer, who takes part in musical theatre weekly sessions at Oswaldwistle's ReAct Academy of Theatre Arts, was handed the opportunity to perform in the contest after her mother sent in a five-minute video to the talent show's organisers, the Bolton News.

The video showed Jayne's 'little princess' signing a song from a musical theatre production

The nurse from Oswaldwistle added: "I did not think we had a chance and then the Bolton news contact us to ask Carla to take part.

"They said Peter Kay chose who he wanted and Carla was one of them."
