THIEVES who helped themselves to £60,000 of surveying equipment are being hunted by police.

Officers said the first of two incident happened in Rhyddings Street, Oswaldtwistle shortly before 10am on November 21.

A silver Volkswagen Passat, believed to be on cloned plates, drove onto the pavement and the front seat passenger grabbed a tripod and surveying equipment that was being used.

The operator was left shocked but uninjured, police said.

A second incident occurred just over an hour later, at around 11am, when a silver Ford Mondeo, also believed to be on cloned plates, drove onto the pavement in the same spot in Rhyddings Street.

The car knocked the surveying equipment over and caused the operator to jump out of the way.

One man then got out of the car and grabbed the equipment before it was driven off, police said.
