CHARITIES have benefited from charitable foundation donations from a building society.

Darwen Furniture Store, East Lancashire Hospice and Blackburn-based Nightsafe are just some of the charities that have benefited from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation donations.

The charitable foundation has thanked its members in Blackburn who have contributed their own money to the more than £4million donated to help charities and good causes around the UK.

It is funded through the Small Change Big Difference scheme where members donate the pennies from the interest on their mortgage or savings accounts just once a year to help smaller charities around the UK.

Nightsafe, which supports homeless young people aged between 16 and 24, received a donation of £1,600 to buy new IT equipment, while Darwen Furniture Store were given £778 to buy a hand-held electrical equipment safety checker to ensure donated electrical items were safe.

While East Lancashire Hospice received £1,765 to enable the hospice to buy specialist equipment to improve the quality of patient care.
