THE leaders of Hyndburn and Blackburn with Darwen Councils have signed a joint letter to the Prime Minister warning that government plans to provide new homes are inadequate.
Miles Parkinson and Mohammed Khan are among 64 Labour town hall bosses urging Theresa May to think again about her ‘disappointing’ Tory Conference proposal on house building .
They say it fails to address the true scale of the problem across the country. or provide local authorities with the money needed to tackle it after a 40 per cent cut in their budgets
The letter says: “Your conference announcement follows in a long line of policy decisions that Tory Ministers have made on housing since 2010, which have done nothing to fix the current housing crisis, and in many cases made the problems worse.
“We are calling on you to give councils the fair funding to deliver not just a large-scale house building programme, but also the range of vital services communities rely on.”
The letter sets out Labour’s ten-point plan for delivering real change in the housing sector.
