BLACKBURN’S BID manager has been nominated for the Lancashire Tourism Superstar award.

Harriet Roberts is one of three volunteers nominated for the award which is part of Market Lancashire’s Lancashire Tourism Awards.

The Tourism Superstar award aims to highlight the contribution of individuals who have made an impact on visitor’s experiences of Lancashire.

For the last four years, Ms Roberts has been responsible for delivering the communications strategy behind Blackburn’s Business Improvement District (BID), which is paid into by local businesses and invested into local services and projects.

During her time as BID manager, Ms Roberts has helped to develop a distinctive brand for the town through a series of high-profile campaigns and initiatives.

She made the decision to enter Blackburn in to the Great British High Street Awards in 2016, which saw the town beat 900 other entries to become ‘Town Centre of the Year’ and overall winner.

She also leads a group of volunteers between 2010 and 2015 to develop the Blackburn Heritage Festival.

She said: “We have been working hard to change perceptions for four years. For Marketing Lancashire to recognise this work in the Tourism awards is testimony to the team I’ve been part of as BID Manager. This is a great opportunity to keep us in the spotlight.”

The award will be presented to the overall winner of the vote, at the Lancashire Tourism Awards at The Blackpool Tower Ballroom on November 9.

Ruth Connor, Chief Executive of Marketing Lancashire said: “Visitors to Lancashire are increasing every year and have now reached 67 million and it is thanks to colleagues and partners, like our Tourism Superstar finalists, that are attracting new and returning visitors to Lancashire.

“Through their creativity, their understanding of the visitor experience and with an unstoppable commitment to great customer service, each of our finalists is demonstrating the ‘where life feels good’ message that we champion as part of Lancashire’s incredible tourism offer.

“We wish our three wonderful finalists the very best of luck."
