A MAJOR stretch of road has been closed as engineers work to fix a leaked water main.
Hyndburn Road in Accrington, just off the roundabout at McDonald's heading towards Blackburn, has been shut while work to repair the water main takes place.
Lancashire county council said the road could be closed until Friday, although it could re-open earlier if the water main can be fixed sooner.
It comes after people on social media reported seeing a 'hole' which had shut the road over the weekend.
A Lancashire county council spokesperson said: "A road closure has been put in place on Hyndburn Road for United Utilities to repair a leaked water main.
"The closure has been agreed until Friday, although the road may open earlier if the water main can be fixed sooner."
The road policing unit at Blackburn said they had not attended the incident.
A spokesperson for McDonald’s said: “All we know is that the road has been shut off over the weekend due to this hole."
