A CAB driver was subject to a racist attack in a public park as he held off several attackers as members of the public tried to intervene.

The black cab driver was filmed being attacked by the gang in Witton Park, Blackburn on Thursday (August 17).

Footage shows two female joggers bravely attempting to intervene but they had to retreat, while one woman can be heard frantically calling the police to report that an Asian cab driver is being attacked.

The pictures show several male attackers but Asian Image believes that the cabbie, Jangeer Ahmed, aged  50, had earlier fended off a larger group.

While defending himself against the attack, Jangeer is also at the receiving end of racist abuse.

The suspect assaulting the taxi driver shouts racist abuse and then urges others to attack the cabbie who manages to fight back.

One member of the group kicks the taxi before they retreat and then flee from the scene.

Fifty-year-old Mr Ahmed said he had just parked up to go to the gym at Witton Park Arena, when the 'really aggressive' and 'abusive' group surrounded the taxi.

He said: "I had just parked up to go to the gym and got out and this group surrounded the taxi.

"There was a group of more than ten at the beginning and they were  really aggressive and then they dispersed but kept coming back.

"They were really abusive.

"This lot in the video was at the end. I was just trying to defend myself and didn't want  to get involved but it was a difficult situation.

He thanked the two ladies who bravely atempted to intervene and the person who filmed the incident.

Mr Ahmed said: "The two ladies stepped in to diffuse the situation but these guys kept  coming forward. I would like to thank them and there were others who could see what was going on and were trying to calm things down.

“I would also like to thank the person who filmed the incident as it shows the level of abuse these guys were coming out with.

"I had to stand up to them I think they expected me to be scared. I wasn't going to let them get the better of me."
