A CONVICTED sex offender was found to have three bank accounts he hadn't revealed to police as required by him being placed on the sex offender register.

Blackburn magistrates heard Peter Antonio Panek refused to co-operate with a police request for a compliance visit.

Panek, 52, of Winnipeg Close, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to three offences of failing to comply with notification requirements. He was remanded on bail for the preparation of a pre-sentence report.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said Panek received a four year prison sentence for three offences of sexual activity with a girl under the age of 16.

In July, police made a compliance visit but the defendant wasn't in. They contacted him by phone to make arrangements but he said he would not allow a visit.

"He said he would come to the police station and that lead to a search of his property where the police discovered evidence of these bank accounts," said Miss Allan.

Sarah Aslam, defending, said one of the accounts had been opened while Panek was abroad, another was used for the purchase of fuel and the other was a business account which was no longer used.

"He was negligent in not reporting these accounts to the police but no harm was caused by them," said Miss Aslam.
