A TEENAGER has received an award from Burnley Football Club to honour his commitment to his scholarship.

Burnley College Sixth Form student Tristan Jumeau, 17, is also a second year full-time scholar for the under-18s side at Burnley FC in the youth coaching facility known as The Clarets’ Academy.

He is also studying for A levels in maths and chemistry.

The 17-year-old, who aims to gain a professional contract with the team upon completion of his apprenticeship, was named Clarets’ Scholar of the Year at an event in London.

He said: “My plan is to get a professional five-year contract with Burnley Football Club and reach the highest standard possible, but I wanted to achieve A Level maths and chemistry because I think these qualifications will help me in future if my career takes a different path.”

Tristan’s scholarship will be reviewed by Burnley Football Club at the end of the next football season and if he is selected for the scholarship again, he will gain a professional contract with the club and move to playing for the under-18s to the under-23s.

Principal Hugh Bramwell said: “It’s fantastic to see the high level of commitment our students show to their studies, and Tristan is indeed a committed and outstanding students.”
