A HOSPITALS trust welcomed a professor to visit their Ophthalmology/ Integrated Eye Service recently.

Professor Bosanquet, the Emeritus Professor of Health Policy at London's Imperial College, decided to visit East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust after representatives from the service were invited to a round table event in the House of Commons.

Prof Bosanquet said:"I am extremely impressed with how different organisations have come together to form a seamless and effective service for the patients of East Lancashire and Blackburn with Darwen.

"It was good to talk to staff in the new teams and hear about how the service has already improved waiting times by follow up appointments for patients in local optometrists.“

The Integrated Eye Service at the trust provide an extensive range of eye services for both adults and children.

Its main focus is the treatment and care of patients from common eye complaints to specialised eye complaints which need expert care.

All planned surgery is undertaken at Burnley General Hospital in two dedicated eye theatres.
