TWO teenagers were airlifted to hospital after being knocked off a bicycle yesterday.
Several emergency service vehicles were called to the Hammerton Road and Manchester Road junction in Burnley after the boys, both 13, were hit at around 1.40pm.
Inspector Ilyas Mohmed said the pair had been riding the same bicycle before crashing into a white Kia Picanto.
One of the boys suffered a broken arm and the other suffered a head injury.
Passers-by watched on as they were both airlifted to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool.
Sergeant Lee Campbell, said: “The boys and the car crashed together. One boy suffered a fractured wrist and the other a head injury.
“We don’t believe the injuries are life-threatening.
“The car had stopped after the incident and everyone has been accounted for.
“No arrests have been made.”
The road was closed for more than an hour as traffic was diverted around the scene.
A passer-by said: “It’s not a nice situation for anyone to be involved in.
“There was quite a lot of police and paramedics there at the scene which meant something bad must have happened.
“I do hope everyone involved is okay.”
Insp Mohmed said: “The injuries to the boy’s head are not as serious as initially thought.
“The pair were taken to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital as a precaution.”
