OUR town centres are forever changing, moving with times and new influences to cater for a modern society.
Once upon a time our high streets were crammed with small, independent stores, who sold everything from clogs and cakes, to tea and trousers.
Shop assistants wearing clean white aprons, weighed out the butter, sugar and dried fruits into bags as required by the customers, sliced cheese from a block and bacon from a full side, on a fearsome looking slicing machine.
Assistants in dirty aprons were employed to unload all the sacks and boxes of produce from the horse-drawn carts, which plodded the cobbled streets from the railway station on their delivery rounds.
Here are images of some of our town centres in years gone by, you'll see big changes from how they are today.
