SUPERHEROES and car enthusiasts stopped by Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital to drop off a haul of toys for the children’s ward.
Pendle Powerfest, a group run by volunteers, arrived at the hospital in flashy motors to deliver two carts full of gifts and games a £500 Amazon voucher. Children on the ward were also invited outside to look at the vehicles.
Angela Whitworth, play specialist at the Trust, said: "Seeing our patients faces light up when the Pendle Powerfest team came onto the ward was absolutely fantastic,” said .
"We couldn’t be more grateful for the toys and for the team letting the children look at their lovely cars."
Royal Blackburn Hospital was the first stop of Pendle Powerfest’s ‘Heroes Convoy’, a mission that saw the group take toys to local hospitals and hospices in a 100 mile rolling motor show.
The idea was inspired by the entertainment manager, Lee Tombling, whose deceased sister Amy provided toys in children’s wards out of her own pocket. All of the donated toys will carry a sticker with the words “Simply Amy” on them in her memory.
Mr Tombling said: "I think it’s gone really well; we’ve set out what we wanted to do and we all feel ten feet tall for doing it."
