CALLS have been made for funds to be made available for a ‘dilapidated’ play park in Baxenden.

Cllr Terry Hurn wants to see improvements made to the children’s play area in Back Lane.

The playground includes swings, slides and roundabouts for children to use.

However, Cllr Hurn said much of the equipment in the play area was totally unusable after years without repairs.

He said he wants to get some more support for the plans to hopefully get funding in the future.

Cllr Hurn said: “We’re desperate to get something done for that site.

“We don’t have an awful lot for children to do in Baxenden, we have the rec, but there is nothing for kids to do on the other side of the village.

“It’s in need of some love, care and attention to bring it back to life.

“It’s about getting the enthusiasm of the people in Baxenden.”

The call comes after the council confirmed £1,500 of funding will be made available in Baxenden to build fencing around the recreational ground.

This was after residents made complaints about travellers on the site.
