A CAR passenger has been hospitalised with a head injury after a car careered down an embankment on a West Pennines road last night.

Police say a Peugeot car left Rivington Road, near Belmont, just before 9pm, and rolled down an incline before coming to a halt below.

An ambulance took a 44-year-old man, from the Chorley area, to Salford Royal Hospital with a head injury as a result of the incident.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said that the 33-year-old woman driver was unhurt but a 17-year-old boy, also a passenger, suffered "bumps and bruises".

An appeal for witnesses is expected to be issued by road police later this morning.
