NEWLY-elected SNP councillor Jennifer Adam-McGregor said she would aim to support those with disabilities during her time on Renfrewshire Council.
The 38-year-old was paralysed by a stroke which forced her to give up her dream cabin crew job in her early twenties. The mum had worked for airline BMI before she became ill in 2004. She was paralysed down her left side and has never regained the full use of her foot and hand.
And the experience has inspired her to try and help people who find themselves in a similar position.
She said: “Seventeen years ago I suffered a brain haemorrhage and I want to focus on trying to help as many people as I can who have disabilities or who have suffered something similar.
“I only actually got this opportunity thanks to Access to Elected Office Fund which offers financial assistance to disabled people who want to stand in elections. They are helping to break down barriers.”
The SNP representative for Paisley Northeast and Ralston is also the younger sister of Paisley MSP George Adam, and said it was ‘great’ a family from Paisley was representing the town.
The former Paisley Grammar School pupil said: “I am delighted to get into the council.
“I want to build up a good relationship with my constituents.
“It’s great that I’ve joined my big brother in representing the party in Paisley.
“I think the SNP had a really successful day and we got a lot of the seats we wanted.”
