FIREFIGHTERS battled a moorland fire that broke out last night in Belmont for almost three hours.

The blaze happened near Rivington Road just before 7pm and measured 500 metres and 100 metres.

Two fire engines from Darwen and Rawtenstall and four from Greater Manchester Fire Service attended.

Firefighters used grass beaters, leaf blowers and a hosereel jet to extinguish the flames.

The cause of the fire is to be established and an investigation has been launched.
