AN engine overheating caused a car fire in Blackburn last night, firefighters said.

Crews attended the scene in Beardwood Meadow at around 8.40pm where a Ford Focus was alight.

Firefighters said the owner had previously smelt smoke driving the car home but had parked up and gone inside.

A spokesman for the fire service said: “The car was well alight when we got there. It was caused by the engine overheating.

“Some kids had seen the smoke coming from the car and told the owner so he could call us.

“There were quite a few other vehicles in the vicinity so it was lucky we were able to get there and extinguish it before it spread.”

Nobody was injured in the blaze.
