CHILD actors are being sought for a short film being produced by an acclaimed Blackburn film director.

Aaron Dunleavy has been commissioned to direct the ‘post-apocalyptic’ three-minute film which will be shot in the Griffin area of the town.

Random Acts Network Centre North are currently casting East Lancashire children for the short film.

The programme is a joint initiative between Arts Council England and Channel 4 and will be shown on the mainstream channel later this year.

Aaron, a 23-year-old film graduate has already directed two acclaimed short films, Throw Me To The Dogs and more recently The Truants, which have been praised by This Is England director Shane Meadows and have been screened at film festivals across the world.

Describing the latest project, Aaron, said it will be 'entirely improvised and unscripted'.

He said: “The film will tell the story of an abandoned street which has been taken over by children, who live with no rules or boundaries.

“The opportunity will be a fantastic experience for local young people to be involved in the making of a film, which requires no previous acting experience and will be entirely improvised and unscripted.

“We aren’t necessarily looking for experienced actors, but rather just real kids who could be themselves and have fun.

“The atmosphere of the film will be post-apocalyptic, with normal kids in an adult free zone in a run down street.

“It will have a zombie movie feel, but will have wild children instead of zombies.”

The film is scheduled to be shot over two days in the Easter school holidays between Saturday, April 8 and Sunday, April 23.

All applicants will be contacted with a decision once the casting process has been completed.
