A BAIL hostel resident assaulted another man after rumours spread that he had been involved in child sex offences.
Blackburn magistrates heard the victim had helped an 18 year old resident to move a television and other people living at Highfield House, Lydia Street, Accrington, had put a sinister interpretation on his actions.

Daniel John Sumner, 30, of Highfield House, pleaded guilty to assault. He was sentenced to six weeks in prison after the court was told he was being recalled on prison licence for an offence of actual bodily harm.
Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said the victim answered a knock on his door and was immediately attacked by Sumner.
He punched him three times in the face and then followed him into the room and continued the attack. Staff eventually got him out of the room and away from the victim.
