CONTROVERSIAL comedian Russell Brand has announced that he is coming to Blackburn with his new stand-up show next year.

He has revealed that he will be bringing his Re:Birth show to King George’s Hall on September 13, 2018, as part of a massive UK tour.

Inspired by becoming a parent, Brand will address issues of fatherhood, politics and the modern world in the show.

He said: “How do we make sense of the madness of our lives once we become parents? “What am I going to tell my daughter about conformity and responsibility? “What happens if she grows up to be like me or, worse, date someone like me?”

Brand rose to fame in 2001 as a presenter on MTV and has had a series of sell-out tours, his most recent being Messiah Complex in 2013.

The Re:Birth tour starts in April and continues until November next year.

Tickets for the Blackburn date go on sale at 10am on Friday. Brand first achieved notoriety in 2004 as the host of Big Brother’s Big Mouth, a Big Brother spin-off and in 2007, he had his first major film role in St Trinian’s.

The following year he landed a major role in the romantic comedy-drama Forgetting Sarah Marshall; the film led to him starring in a spin-off, the comedy Get Him to the Greek, alongside Jonah Hill in 2010.

He also worked as a voice actor in the animated films Despicable Me in 2010, Hop in 2011, and Despicable Me 2 in 2013.

He played the title character of the 2011 remake of the romantic comedy Arthur and in 2013, he released the stand-up special Messiah Complex.

That same year he guest edited an edition of New Statesman and became known as a public activist and campaigner.

He has spoken on a wide range of political and cultural issues, including wealth inequality, addiction, corporate capitalism and climate change.

Two years ago he released a biographical documentary called Brand: A Second Coming.
