To mark the start of 2017, we've identified the 166 takeaways in Lancashire which have a low food hygiene rating.

Let's hope that number is down this time next year!

The Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS) helps consumers choose where to shop for food by giving them information and rating the hygiene in eateries.

Ratings are given on a range of issues including:

•How hygienically the food is handled – how it is prepared, cooked, re-heated, cooled and stored.

•The condition of the structure of the buildings – the cleanliness, layout, lighting, ventilation and other facilities.

•How the business manages and records what it does to make sure food is safe.

Eateries are given scores out of five, ranging from zero, meaning urgent improvement necessary, to five, translated as 'very good'.
