A MAN who was arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman’s body was found at a house has been released without charge.

Police were called by the ambulance service to the terrace home in Every Street, Brierfield.

Inside the property, officers found the body of a woman, believed to be in her 50s.

A police spokesman said the death, which was discovered at 8.30pm on Monday, is being treated as ‘not suspicious'.

She added:  “The man arrested for murder has been released without charge and while the post mortem examination has not fully ascertained the cause of death there are no suspicious circumstances.”

Neighbours said they were shocked to hear the news of the woman’s death, and their thoughts were with her family.

However, they said they were unaware of her identity or how long she had been at the house.

Both an ambulance and a rapid response car had been called to the house at 8.10pm, a spokesman for the North West Ambulance Service said.

Staff then contacted the police after finding the woman.
