BLACKBURN Rovers fans are joining forces again to give Venky’s the red card at Saturday’s match home clash with Brentford.

It’s six years since the Indian owners bought the club and supporters frustrated with the mounting debt and team’s struggling league form will show their opposition twice during the Championship fixture.

Similar to the demonstration against Wolves last month, when fans walked in late and left early, the focus will be on the 18th and 75th minutes – a nod to the year the club was formed.

But this time they are being asked to hold up a red card or download an app on their phone displaying the same colour.

Lifelong Rovers fan Steve Mack, who was born in Kidder Street behind the Blackburn End and who has chaired recent meetings as the various supporters groups have come together, says it’s a ‘simple gesture’ but one he hopes will draw attention to Rovers’ plight.

He told the Lancashire Telegraph: “One of the fans at the King George’s Hall meeting came up with the idea.

“A lot of people don’t want to get involved in walking out of the ground, so this might encourage those who didn’t take part in the Wolves protest to do so this time.

“It’s a simple gesture but a lot easier for people to get involved with and it won’t disrupt the atmosphere.”

He added: “It’s nothing to do with the manager or the players – we just want Venky’s to sell the club.

“This is something that has been going on for six years.

“They have got rid of all the good people on the board and it is horrific what has happened to the club.”

The other aim of the protest is to make sure Rovers’ situation is not forgotten among a host of other clubs, including Blackpool and Charlton Athletic, in disarray over their ownership.

And Mack says there is plenty of solidarity between the sets of fans.

“We are in touch with other supporters’ groups and, while discussions are at an early stage, there is a plan to maybe adopt the red card as a symbol of clubs in this position.”

A spokesman for Blackburn Rovers said: “The club will, as always, facilitate peaceful protests, however we would encourage all supporters to get behind the team for a game that we all desperately want to win.”
