This annual event will take place at King George’s Hall and local pensioners are being urged to step out and meet friends while having a fantastic time.

The event, which will run from 1pm until 4pm, has also been supported by Blackburn’s Age UK chief executive Vicky Shepherd.

She said: “This is a wonderful event and we will always encourage people to get out and about. The dance will be beneficial to their health as it’s great exercise. It is a good way of encouraging the elderly to get active whilst they are also meeting people.

“At this time of year it’s great for people to get out socially. We always encourage people to take up a new hobby because it’s good for the mind.”

The Lancashire Telegraph tea dance gives people the opportunity to reminisce while dancing the waltz or the tango to some favourite tunes played by the organist.

Mince pies, tea and coffee are also provided for those who work up an appetite.

Zoe Donoghue, regional promotions and events manager at Newsquest North West, said: “I am really looking forward to the Lancashire Telegraph Tea Dance. I will be taking part in the festivities and hopefully spreading a little festive cheer with a Christmas costume.

“It’s a lovely afternoon out for all, if you are participating in the dancing or just want to come along for the music, mince pie, cup of tea and of course the live entertainment with our special guest singer, you may also win a prize in the Christmas raffle.”

Tickets cost £3.50 and are available from the Lancashire Telegraph reception or King George’s Hall.
